PSX opens in green as KSE-100 surges over 1,000 points

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened the first trading day of the week on a positive note, with the benchmark KSE-100 index rising by 1,059.81 points to 116,529.15 as of 9:33 AM on Monday. The trading volume at that point stood at 2,925,331 shares.

However, the market witnessed notable fluctuations shortly after the opening bell. By 9:42 AM, the KSE-100 index remained in positive territory, up by 647.36 points at 116,116.70.

Among the top early gainers overall were Dewan Mushtaq Textile Mills Limited (DMTM), which climbed 12.52 per cent or Rs1 to Rs8.99; Crescent Jute Products Limited (CJPL), which rose 11.47 per cent or Rs0.39 to Rs3.79; and Ecopack Limited (ECOP), which increased 10.02 per cent or Rs3.16 to Rs34.71.

On the other hand, early decliners included Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited (SCBPL), down by 9.69 per cent or Rs5.70 to Rs53.10; Sana Industries Limited (SNAI), which fell 9.46 per cent or Rs2.30 to Rs22.01; and LSE Financial Services Limited (LSEFSL), which dropped 8.99 per cent or Rs2 to Rs20.25.

As of 9:48 AM, April 28, 2025, the KSE-100 index had gained 59.93 per cent over the past year, while the year-to-date (YTD) increase stood at 1.05 per cent. Over the past 52 weeks, the index has traded within a range of 70,562.12 points to a high of 120,796.67 points.

Among KSE-100 companies, notable early gainers in percentage terms included Systems Limited (SYS), up 6.74 per cent or Rs32.82 to Rs520; Hum Network Limited (HUMNL), up 5.63 per cent or Rs0.68 to Rs12.75; and EFU General Insurance Limited (EFUG), up 5.72 per cent or Rs5.72 to Rs121.99.

Conversely, major early losses within KSE-100 companies were observed in Standard Chartered Bank (SCBPL), down 4.76 per cent or Rs2.80 to Rs56; Ghani Glass Limited (GHGL), down 2.82 per cent or Rs0.93 to Rs32.01; and Thal Limited (THALL), down 2.21 per cent or Rs8.47 to Rs375.

It is worth noting that the KSE-100 index concluded the previous week at 115,469.34 points, marking an increase of 449.53 points or 0.39 per cent on Friday. During Friday’s session, the market traded within a wide range of 2,128.28 points, recording an intraday high of 115,844.88 (+825.07 points) and a low of 113,716.60 (-1,303.21 points).
