PSX ends another day in red, shedding 741 points


PSX turns red

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 Index ended Wednesday’s trading session at 77,886.98 points, down by 741.82 points or 0.94 per cent.

During the day, the index fluctuated within a range of 1,341.65 points, reaching an intraday high of 79,151.81 (+523.01) and a low of 77,810.16 (-818.64). The total trading volume for the KSE-100 Index stood at 112.54 million shares.

Top decliners and gainers

Among the 100 companies listed on the index, 24 saw their stock prices rise, 70 experienced declines, and 6 remained unchanged.

The top decliners included HABSM, which fell by 5.96 per cent, followed by THALL with a 4.13 per cent drop, SEARL down 4.10 per cent, FCCL losing 3.98 per cent, and KOHC decreasing by 3.80 per cent.

Conversely, the leading gainers were NCPL, which rose by 4.37 per cent, FATIMA up by 3.79 per cent, BNWM gaining 3.68 per cent, PAKT increasing by 2.22 per cent, and YOUW improving by 1.97 per cent.

In terms of index-point contributions, the companies contributing most to the index’s decline were UBL (-87.73 points), SYS (-70.26 points), LUCK (-67.72 points), OGDC (-49.62 points), and POL (-45.89 points).

On the other hand, FFC contributed +38.10 points, FATIMA added +19.64 points, ENGRO contributed +16.14 points, PAKT +8.47 points, and NESTLE +8.09 points.

Sector-wise, the index was negatively impacted by Commercial Banks (-195.70 points), Cement (-162.74 points), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-129.50 points), Technology & Communication (-96.37 points), and Power Generation & Distribution (-43.10 points).

Conversely, positive contributions came from the Fertilizer sector (+75.44 points), Tobacco (+8.47 points), Property (+2.95 points), Insurance (+2.14 points), and Modarabas (+0.32 points).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 49,473.46 points, down by 418.91 points or 0.84 per cent. The total market volume was 382.60 million shares, an increase from 313.09 million shares in the previous session. The traded value was Rs14.64 billion, showing a decrease of Rs2.98 billion.

Throughout the day, 192,124 trades were executed across 442 companies. Of these, 118 companies saw their stock prices rise, 254 experienced declines, and 70 remained unchanged.
