PSX smashes past 152,000 for the first time ever

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) started the third trading day of September on a strong note, with the benchmark KSE-100 index opening in the green and posting notable gains in the early hours.
Within the first five minutes of trade, the index jumped by 801.67 points to 151,777.15 at 9:34 AM, with trading volume recorded at nearly 3.8 million shares.
Momentum continued through the morning session, as the index climbed 998.82 points to reach 151,974.3 by 10:13 AM, on a turnover of close to 59 million shares.
The stock market appeared set to break through the psychological 152,000 barrier, and it finally did so at 11:13 AM. At that moment, the index surged by 1,408.34 points to hit a record 152,383.82, with volumes swelling to more than 138 million shares.
By 11:24 AM, the KSE-100 was trading at 152,293.24, higher by 1,317.76 points or 0.87 percent. The index has so far traded between an intraday low of 151,320.49 and the historic high of 152,383.82.
On a yearly basis, the market is showing a staggering gain of 94.36 percent, while the year-to-date increase stands at 32.28 percent. In terms of range, the index has moved from 78,250.90 to today’s all-time peak of 152,383.82 over the past 52 weeks.
Top gainers and losers
Among individual stocks, the day’s top performers included FPRM, ASLPS, BNL, SMCPL, SITC, ASIC, CCM, SHCM, TOMCL and KOHP, each hitting their upper limit with gains ranging from 9.99 to 10.02 percent. On the other hand, the steepest losers were JUBS, GEMBLUEX, ANSM, STML, SUHJ, IML, TRSM, SERT, GFIL and TPLL, which fell between 4.03 and 10.01 percent.
In terms of KSE-100 constituents, companies posting losses in percentage terms included INIL, GHGL, MUGHAL, ISL, PABC, EFUG, PAKT, BAFL, BAHL, RMPL, DCR, GADT, TGL, SCBPL and BNWM. Their declines ranged from 0.28 percent to 2.73 percent.
Previous session recap
In the previous trading session on September 2, the benchmark KSE-100 index had closed at 150,975.48, marking an increase of 1,004.36 points or 0.67 percent. The index traded between an intraday high of 151,075.67 and a low of 150,081.40.
Total volumes for the KSE-100 stood at 442 million shares, with 49 companies closing higher and 51 ending lower.
Top gainers of the day were JVDC, GHGL, ENGROH, TGL and BOP, while the leading laggards were PKGP, EPCL, KEL, SAZEW and NATF. In terms of index contribution, ENGROH added 484 points, FFC 164 points, EFERT 106 points, BAHL 99 points and BAFL 84 points.
Meanwhile, LUCK, FCCL, PKGP, SAZEW and MEBL were among the major drags. Sector-wise support came from investment companies, fertiliser, commercial banks, glass and ceramics, and property.
The broader All-Share Index settled at 92,750.09 with a net gain of 297.34 points or 0.32 percent.
