PSX climbs by over 4,000 points near closing


PSX new day high

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 index rose by 1.4 per cent, or 1,562.51 points, to reach 112,913.68 around 10:38 AM on the second-last trading day of the year, compared to last week’s close of 111,351.17.

On Monday, as of 11:00 AM, the stock market reached a high of 113,039.98, marking a gain of 1,686.81 points from its previous close. The lowest point recorded was 111,916.70, up 656.53 points from PSX’s close on Friday.

By 11:33 AM, the index rose further to 113,405.57, reflecting a gain of 2,054 points or 1.84 per cent. This marked the new day high before 11:35 AM.

At approximately 3:26 PM, the PSX made significant gains, reaching 115,422.34 points after an increase of 4,071.17 points.

A year ago, the KSE-100 index stood at 62,451.04. Comparing this to Friday’s closing figure, the KSE-100 index has surged by over 48,900 points in the past 12 months.

Among the companies in the green, Pak-Gulf Leasing Company Limited (PGLC) rose by 10.01 per cent with a trading volume of 686 shares. National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) gained 10.00 per cent with 4,704,539 shares traded. Bank of Punjab (BOP) saw an increase of 7.60 per cent with a volume of 37,859,761 shares.

Shell Pakistan Limited (SHEL) was up by 5.79 per cent with 103,192 shares traded, while Askari Bank Limited (AKBL) increased by 5.50 per cent with 666,687 shares.

On the other hand, companies in the red included Punjab Oil Mills Limited (POML), which fell by 7.78 per cent with a trading volume of 1,901 shares. TRG Pakistan Limited (TRG) declined by 2.09 per cent with 5,106,546 shares traded. First Habib Modaraba (FHAM) was down 1.33 per cent with a volume of 463 shares, and Javedan Corporation Limited (JVDC) decreased by 0.95 per cent with 362,600 shares traded.

For those unaware, Pakistan’s stock market reached its all-time high of 116,169.41 on December 16, 2024. This is the highest level ever recorded by the PSX in the history of Pakistan.
