State Bank unveils Rs55 coin honouring Guru Nanak’s legacy

KARACHI: In celebration of the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Federal Government has issued a special commemorative coin valued at Rs55.
This announcement was made on Friday in a press release by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The front of the coin features a waxing crescent moon and a five-pointed star in a rising position, symbolically facing North-West. Encircling the top of the crescent, the words “Islami Jamhuria Pakistan” are inscribed in Urdu.
Below the crescent flanked by two upward-curving wheat sprigs is the year of issuance. Additionally, the face value of the coin, “55,” is boldly displayed on one side of the crescent with the word “Rupia” written in Urdu on the other.
On the reverse the coin showcases an image of a monument dedicated to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Above the image, the words “555th Birthday Celebrations” are inscribed while below “Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji” is written.
The dates “1469-2024” are positioned around bottom edge of the coin marking span of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life and legacy.
This commemorative coin honours Baba Guru Nanak, the revered founder of Sikhism, a faith with millions of followers around the world. Pakistan, home to some of the holiest Sikh shrines takes pride in this heritage.
The coin, made of a nickel-brass alloy (79 per cent copper, 20 per cent zinc, and 1 per cent nickel), weighs 13.5 grams and has a diameter of 30.0 mm.
It will be available from November 22 at all SBP Banking Services Corporation field offices.
