ISLAMABAD: Auto sales in Pakistan surged in September 2024, with 1300cc cars taking the spotlight, according to the latest data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).
The overall sales of cars, including light commercial vehicles (LCVs), vans, and jeeps, jumped by 23.9 per cent, reaching 10,297 units, compared to 8,312 units in the same month last year.
Month-on-month, sales also climbed by 18.4 per cent, with 8,699 cars sold in August 2024. In the first three months of FY25 (July-September), sales totalled 27,585 units, a significant 31.5 per cent rise from the 20,983 units sold during the same period last year.
Focusing on passenger cars, their sales rose by 21.6 per cent in September, hitting 7,794 units, up from 6,410 units in the same month last year. Production saw an even bigger boost, with 9,579 units produced, marking a 52.9 per cent increase from last year’s 6,264 units.
What’s surprising is that, despite soaring car prices, the ‘1300cc and Above’ category led the sales, with 3,792 units sold in September.
Among these, Toyota’s Corolla and Yaris models topped the list with 1,883 units sold, followed by Honda’s Civic and City at 1,143 units. Suzuki Swift contributed 608 units, while Hyundai Elantra added 100 units to the total.
The ‘Below 1000cc’ segment was the second-best seller with 3,761 units, dominated by the Suzuki Alto with 3,146 units, and the Suzuki Bolan, which sold 615 units.
Meanwhile, the ‘1000cc’ category lagged behind with just 241 units sold, with Suzuki WagonR leading the pack at 182 units, and Suzuki Cultus adding 59 units to the tally.
Despite economic challenges, the Pakistani auto market is showing robust growth, with consumer demand for both high-end and smaller vehicles remaining strong.
