The Chinese port is one of the busiest ports in the world, a position it has held for nearly 15 years.
The Shanghai International Port (Group) Ltd, who manages the port, attributed the feat to an increase in exports demands, a rise in international transfer of containers and ship-to-ship operations.
The efficiency output of the port was improved by over 30 per cent while it also reduced the workforce requirements by over 70 per cent.
The port operates around 350 international shipping routes, and is connected to over 700 ports around the globe.
It manages an average daily import and export value of around $4 billion.
As per reports, the port was apparently undergone some changes, with a focus on sustainability by partnering up with ports in Los Angeles (US) and Hamburg (Germany) to develop ‘eco-friendly’ shipping corridors.
