Sugar price surge in wholesale market

KARACHI: The wholesale price of sugar in the city has experienced a notable increase, currently standing at Rs 140 per kg.

At the outset of the business week, the price was Rs 135 per kg, reflecting a rise of 5 rupees in just three days.

This upward trend has been even more pronounced over the past month, with an astonishing increase of 50 rupees per kg. As a result, a standard fifty kg bag of sugar now commands a price of Rs 7,000.

The impact of these escalating prices is also evident at the retail level, where consumers are now purchasing sugar at Rs 150 per kg.
