ISLAMABAD: The Suzuki Alto has once again outperformed all other cars in terms of sales in Pakistan, despite its ‘not-so-appealing’ and highly criticised looks.
After Mehran, it wouldn’t be wrong to call it the new ‘Boss’ of the Pakistani auto market, given its strong presence on the roads and high demand in the car market. In other words, it seems like Suzuki has successfully created the Mehran 2.0, or a new ‘Boss’.
The reason behind the massive Alto sales is its slightly affordable price tag compared to other new cars offered by Pakistani automakers. Alto’s performance might be sluggish, its sales are not.
It is worth mentioning, for now, the Suzuki Alto has no direct competitor in the 660cc category, which is another reason the small hatchback is highly preferred by those who like small, eco-friendly cars.
Looking at the latest data provided by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the Suzuki Alto not only remained the best seller in its own ‘Below 1000cc’ category but also in the ‘1000cc’ and ‘1300cc or above’ categories, showing that the mini hatchback has become the best seller across all car categories in Pakistan.
Considering data released by PAMA, no other car crossed the 1,100-unit mark, but Suzuki managed to sell Alto’s 2,023 units in the previous month alone.
Interestingly, Suzuki Alto sales were 1,444.27 per cent higher than those of the Suzuki Cultus in August 2024. Suzuki Swift’s sales were also 261.896 per cent lower than the sales of the Suzuki Alto.
The reason for this huge difference is that many buyers choose the Alto not for its looks but for its great fuel efficiency. Additionally, while its price is still high, it remains much lower than that of other mini hatchbacks currently available in Pakistan.
