Budget 2024-25: imported mobile phones expected to become pricier

iPhone price increase

ISLAMABAD: Consumers in Pakistan should brace for higher prices on imported mobile phones, including popular models like iPhones, OnePlus, Samsung flagships, Nothing, and Motorola.

According to Express Tribune, this anticipated increase is due to the federal budget proposal for the fiscal year 2024-25, which includes significant tax hikes on these imports.

According to sources from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the new budget suggests several tax measures aimed at imported mobile phones.

These measures include the imposition of a federal excise duty (FED), an increase in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax, and a further hike in the Gross Sales Tax (GST). Currently, the GST on mobile phones stands at 25 per cent, and any additional increase would pose a considerable challenge to consumers.
