Interbank closing: PKR gains 20 paisa against US dollar

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) gained 20 paisa, or 0.07 per cent, against the US dollar (USD) in Friday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 277.64 per USD, up from previous rate of 277.84.
On a weekly basis, however, the rupee has only slightly slipped, losing 3 paisa or 0.01 per cent against the dollar.
Over the current fiscal year, the PKR has shown a modest increase, strengthening by 69.89 paisa or 0.25 per cent. It has appreciated by 4.22 rupees, or 1.52 per cent, so far this calendar year.
The rupee’s performance against other major currencies showed mixed results:
Japanese Yen: The PKR slid by 0.13 paisa or 0.07 per cent, closing at 1.8269 from 1.8256.
British Pound: The PKR gained 20.39 paisa or 0.06 per cent, ending at 360.20 compared to 360.40.
Euro: The rupee depreciated by 50.59 paisa or 0.17 per cent, closing at 300.59 from 300.08.
Chinese Yuan: PKR appreciated by 9.55 paisa or 0.24 per cent, ending the day at 38.98 compared to 39.07.
UAE Dirham: The rupee rose by 5.35 paisa or 0.07 per cent, closing at 75.59.
Saudi Riyal: PKR climbed by 6.50 paisa or 0.09 per cent to settle at 73.92.
Swiss Franc: The rupee gained 41.58 paisa or 0.13 per cent, finishing at 320.36.
These movements reflect a day of mild gains for the rupee in an otherwise cautious trading environment.
