Intraday trade: PKR gains over 20 paisa against USD

KARACHI: On the first trading day of the week, the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) rose by 11 paisa against the US dollar (USD) in early morning trade, according to currency exchange companies.
The PKR was recorded at Rs278.60 against the USD in interbank trading.
Here’s how the PKR performed against the USD on the previous trading day, January 17, 2025:
The PKR increased by 14.45 paisa, or 0.05 per cent, against the USD during Friday’s interbank session, closing at Rs278.71 per USD, compared to the previous close of Rs278.86. Over the week, the rupee appreciated by 13.6 paisa.
On Friday, exchange companies quoted the USD at Rs279.50 to Rs280 for buying and Rs281 for selling.
Here’s how the PKR performed against other foreign currencies on the same day:
UAE Dirham: The PKR appreciated by 3.83 paisa, or 0.05 per cent, against the UAE Dirham, closing at Rs75.88.
Chinese Yuan: The PKR strengthened by 0.39 paisa, or 0.01 per cent, against the Chinese Yuan, finishing at Rs38.03.
Saudi Riyal: PKR rose by 4.25 paisa, or 0.06 per cent, against the Saudi Riyal to close at Rs74.28.
Swiss France: However, the PKR depreciated by 32.82 paisa, or 0.11 per cent, against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs306.07.
Euro: The PKR gained 16.27 paisa, or 0.06 per cent, against the Euro, closing at Rs286.98, down from Rs287.14.
Japanese Yen: Against the Japanese Yen, the PKR fell by 0.60 paisa, or 0.34 per cent, closing at Rs1.7910 versus Rs1.7850 the previous day.
British Pound: The PKR strengthened by 90.12 paisa, or 0.26 per cent, against the British Pound, closing at Rs339.85 compared to Rs340.75 a day earlier.
