Pakistani rupee stable against US dollar in intraday trade


USD to PKR

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) remained largely stable against the US dollar (USD), depreciating by 0.01 per cent during the opening hours of the first trading day of the week.

At the start of trading, the currency was hovering at Rs278.43, exhibiting a loss of one paisa against the greenback.

During the current financial year, the PKR has depreciated by 7.84 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the USD. However, rupee has appreciated by Rs3.44 or 1.24 per cent since the start of calendar year 2024.

On the last trading day of the week (Friday, December 20), the rupee weakened by 6.96 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the US dollar during Friday’s interbank session, settling at Rs278.42 per USD compared to the previous closing of Rs278.35.

Here is how the PKR closed last week against other major currencies:

PKR strengthened by 41.49 paisa or 0.14 per cent against the Euro, closing at Rs289.06 on Friday compared to the previous value of Rs289.47.

It fell by 1.90 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the UAE Dirham to close at Rs75.80.

Against the British Pound, the PKR gained Rs2.95 or 0.84 per cent, closing at Rs348.09 compared to Rs351.04 a day earlier.

The PKR depreciated by 1.11 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the Chinese Yuan, closing at Rs38.15 compared to Rs38.14.

The local unit weakened by 37.10 paisa or 0.12 per cent against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs310.23.

Against the Japanese Yen, the PKR increased by 0.27 paisa or 0.15 per cent, closing at Rs1.7752 compared to Rs1.7779 a day earlier.

The local currency appreciated by 1.30 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.07.
