Intraday trade: PKR loses 3 paisa against USD

KARACHI: On the penultimate trading day of the week, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) saw a slight dip of 3 paisa against the US dollar (USD), with exchange companies quoting the USD at Rs279.90.
Since the start of the current fiscal year, the PKR has weakened by Rs1.53 or 0.55 per cent against the USD. Additionally, it has depreciated by Rs1.32 or 0.47 per cent since the beginning of 2025.
Previous day’s performance against USD and other currencies
In Wednesday’s interbank session, the PKR dropped by 9.92 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the USD, closing at Rs279.87, compared to the previous close of Rs279.77.
Against the Chinese Yuan, the PKR depreciated by 13.01 paisa or 0.34 per cent, closing at Rs38.55 from Rs38.42.
The local currency also lost 2.24 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the Saudi Riyal, finishing at Rs74.62.
Similarly, the PKR declined by 2.80 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the UAE Dirham, closing at Rs76.20.
Conversely, the PKR appreciated by 0.27 paisa or 0.14 per cent against the Japanese Yen, closing at Rs1.8731 compared to Rs1.8758 the day before.
However, it dropped by Rs2.45 or 0.78 per cent against the Swiss Franc, ending at Rs315.10.
Lastly, the PKR lost Rs4.85 or 1.65 per cent against the Euro, closing at Rs298.34 compared to Rs293.49.
Against the British Pound, the PKR fell by Rs3.48 or 0.98 per cent, settling at Rs358.69 compared to the previous value of Rs355.21.
Throughout the day, the PKR saw an intraday high bid of Rs279.90 and a low ask of Rs279.80. In the open market, the USD was quoted at Rs279.00 for buying and Rs281.50 for selling.
