Weekly SPI rebounds after two weeks of decline

WEB DESK: The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group rose by 0.96 per cent compared to the previous week, ending April 4, 2024.

Additionally, it marked a significant increase of 29.45 per cent compared to the same period last year.

This rise is noteworthy as it follows two consecutive weeks of decline. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Combined Index stood at 326.29, up from 323.20 the previous week and significantly higher than the 252.06 recorded a year ago.

Among the 51 items monitored, prices of 16 items (31.37 per cent) increased, while prices of 13 items (25.49 per cent) decreased, and prices of 22 items (43.14 per cent) remained stable during the week.

Notable increases were observed in the prices of Ladies Sandal (12.52 per cent), Tomatoes (11.93 per cent), Gents Sandal (8.70 per cent), Petrol (3.45 per cent), and Chicken (2.99 per cent).

Conversely, prices decreased for Bananas (3.57 per cent), Wheat Flour (2.68 per cent), Eggs, LPG (1.89 per cent each), Diesel (1.18 per cent), and Gur (0.63 per cent).
