ISLAMABAD: A few days ago, Xiaomi’s electric vehicle, known as the SU7 Max, was spotted at Karachi port, increasing speculation that the popular EV may be launched in Pakistan.
Some social media users suggested that Xiaomi might be testing the new EV for a launch in the Pakistani market, while others speculated that Airlink (which manufactures Xiaomi and Redmi phones in Pakistan) might be planning to introduce Xiaomi electric cars to the local market.
It seems unlikely, but not impossible, that Xiaomi might be planning to introduce its electric lineup in Pakistan, given that several other brands are also bringing or manufacturing EVs in the country.
Master Motors introduced the high-end Deepal EVs from Changan, while DFML began assembling relatively affordable EVs – Honri 2.0 and 3.0. Chinese automotive giant BYD has also made its official entry into the Pakistani market.
If Xiaomi officially launches the SU7 EV in Pakistan, it may cost between Rs9 million and Rs9.5 million for the base model.
It is worth noting that this price is just a projection, as the base variant of the SU7 costs around $31,000 in the international market.
For now, nothing is clear or official, as we are currently unaware of how many electric cars have been imported into Pakistan and whether they are for testing purposes or simply units imported by wealthy car enthusiasts to drive on Pakistani roads.
If launched, it will be interesting to see how the people of Pakistan respond to the new electric car lineup from a smartphone brand that is known for producing affordable EVs, despite its reputation for inadequate after-sales and warranty services.
There have been previous reports of customers facing issues with Redmi and Xiaomi smartphones and accessories, with many unable to claim warranty services for months.
