Yamaha halts motorcycle manufacturing in Pakistan

Yamaha motorcycles come to an end in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Yamaha Motor Pakistan (Private) Limited has announced that it will end motorcycle manufacturing operations in the country, citing a shift in its business policy.

In an official notification issued, the company thanked its customers for their loyalty and trust over the years.

“Due to a change in our business policy, we would like to inform you that we will discontinue the manufacturing of motorcycles. We sincerely appreciate your long-standing support and loyalty,” the statement said.

While halting production, Yamaha assured its customers that after sales services will remain intact.

Spare parts will continue to be supplied through Yamaha-authorised dealers, who will be equipped with sufficient stock to meet consumer needs.

Yamaha’s popular bike YBR125G now costs over Rs493,000 in Pakistan

The company further reiterated its commitment to honour warranty claims and provide technical support under the existing warranty schemes.

“We will continue to do our utmost to support your motorcycle experience, and we are committed to serving you sincerely until the very end,” the statement added.

According to available company data, Yamaha Motor Pakistan employs around 375 people. With the closure of manufacturing, a significant number of these jobs may be at risk. However, positions linked to aftersales services, warranty handling, and spare parts distribution are expected to remain in place.

Yamaha, which positioned itself in the mid to high-end segment, struggled to maintain volumes in an already shrinking market.

Yamaha re-entered the Pakistani market in 2015 with high hopes, introducing the YBR125 as a modern option for local riders. The model quickly gained popularity, especially among young buyers in urban areas. However, over time, rising costs, a limited product range, and fierce competition gradually eroded its market position.

Earlier this year, Yamaha’s much-loved YBR125G Matt version saw its price climb to Rs493,500,  a figure that now exceeds the market value of several used cars, including the Suzuki Mehran.
