Ziauddin College of Media Sciences: Recent Activities’ Recap

As their final project, the students of the course “Physics and the Natural World” demonstrated their understanding of fundamentals concepts of science through an artsy display. Sustainable energy solutions, Newton’s Cradle and Tesla Coil were a few among many interesting exhibits seen at the event. The College of Media Sciences at Ziauddin University (ZCOMS) firmly believes that students should have a well-rounded education that not only teaches them the specifics of their selected majors but also the learnings necessary to lead a successful, meaningful and fulfilling lives. Having gone through the projects for this course, the students learned how concepts of physics fundamentally impact their lives.

Workshop on Drone Operations

A workshop on Drone operation conducted by Muhammad Farhan Gul, a professional drone pilot proved to be particularly interesting to the students.  The use of drone in modern productions has become an essential as the shots present a dynamic and cinematic feel captivating the audience. This workshop was organized to provide exposure and hands-on experience of drone piloting to the students.

After a brief introductory session followed by a demonstration of the drone controller that eerily resembled a PS joystick, the aviation enthusiasts in the class were eager to channel their inner Amelia Earhart and test their flight abilities at the Family Park adjacent to Ziauddin University.

ZCOMS Film Festival, NAZARIYA 2024

NAZARIYA 2024 aims to provide a platform for budding filmmakers and students across Pakistan to showcase their unique perspectives through films and documentaries. The festival received over 50 submissions from universities nationwide, which were meticulously reviewed by a distinguished panel of industry experts including Mr. Murtaza Chaudary, Mr. Ali Sohail Jaura, Mr. Rana Kamran, Mr. Bilal Yousufzai, Ms. Namsa Abbasi, and more.

The event, meticulously planned over months, featured a full-day program that included screenings of shortlisted submissions, a workshop led by the esteemed Mr. Usman Dadi, a panel discussion with luminaries such as Ms. Hina Bayat, Mr. Sohail Hashmi, Mr. Babar Sheikh, and Ms. Arsala Babar, and concluded with a glamorous award ceremony.

The award ceremony, undoubtedly the highlight of the evening, was graced by esteemed guests including the Chief Guest Mr. Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Minister of Information and President of Arts Council, and the Guest of Honour Ms. Sultana Siddiqui, CEO of HUM Network. The presence of dignitaries like Ms. Rana Hussain, Minister of Education, and academic leaders including Dr. Shehla Najib Sidiki, Dean of Faculty of Liberal Arts & Human Sciences, Ziauddin University and Dr. Inayatullah Khan, the Vice Chancellor of Ziauddin University, further elevated the event’s stature.

The evening concluded with a mesmerizing classical dance performance by renowned artist Ms. Sheema Kermani, adding a touch of cultural richness to the festivities. In light of the event’s success, ZCOMS looks forward to establishing it as an annual tradition, fostering talent and making a lasting impact on the Pakistani film industry.
