election security

ISLAMABAD: In preparation for the upcoming general elections 2024, a high-level meeting convened under the leadership of Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan has outlined a comprehensive security strategy. Attended by all Capital Police Officers, SSP Operations, AIG Operations, and DPOs, the meeting aimed to ensure a secure and peaceful electoral process on February 8.

The security plan for the elections has been meticulously finalized during the session. However, the implementation of crucial actions is currently hampered by the non-release of funds, causing delays in vital operational measures.

To efficiently manage the election process, administrative divisions have been established, with the election being geographically divided into eastern and western parts. Oversight will be provided by DIG level officers.

In a bid to reinforce security measures, all vacations for police personnel have been revoked until further notice. Additionally, volunteers and retired police officers will be enlisted to undertake additional duties and maintain discipline during the electoral proceedings.

Acknowledging the importance of gender representation, the district administration has been approached to provide 500 women volunteers specifically for women polling stations.

Stringent adherence to the election code of conduct is emphasised, and any violations will not be tolerated. Prohibitions include the display of arms, protests, aerial firing, or any activities that may disturb public order in the lead-up to, during, and after the election.

To enhance surveillance, cameras will be installed at all sensitive polling stations, and a central control room will be established in Safe City Islamabad. Approximately 10,000 personnel from Islamabad Police and other law enforcement agencies will be deployed to perform their duties diligently.

Highlighting the top priority, the Islamabad Capital Police is committed to ensuring peaceful elections, urging citizens to report any unusual activities through Call 15 or the ICT 15 app. This collaborative effort aims to create a secure environment, fostering democratic participation and safeguarding the electoral process.
