Brad Pitt charged interest to Angelina Jolie on a loan after divorce

Angelina Jolie has disclosed that she took a loan, with interest, from ex-husband Brad Pitt following their divorce, as she faced financial difficulties and chose not to seek spousal support.

In new court documents filed amid their ongoing legal battle over Château Miraval, the French estate and winery they once co-owned, Jolie said her savings were tied up in the property. Unable to purchase a home outright in Los Angeles, she turned to Pitt for financial assistance, People Magazine reported.

The actress said that she gave Pitt control of their shared homes in LA and at Miraval “without compensation,” in hopes of easing tensions after a “traumatic period.”

Jolie also detailed the emotional weight Miraval carried, calling it a central part of their family life. The couple, who separated in 2016 and finalised their divorce in 2024, were married at the estate and raised their six children there. Jolie said she and the children have not returned since the split due to its painful associations.

Their legal fight over Miraval continues, with Pitt suing Jolie in 2022 for allegedly selling her stake without his consent. Jolie countersued, accusing Pitt of retaliatory behavior.

Only one of their six children, son Knox, reportedly maintains regular contact with Pitt.

New court documents filed on October 6 ALSO reveal Jolie’s emotional account of the difficult separation. She wrote, “The events leading to my need to separate from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children.” Jolie first filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016, just five days after alleging that Pitt was physically and verbally abusive toward her and their children during a flight from France to California. Pitt has consistently denied these claims.

Jolie added that neither she nor their six children, Maddox (24), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and twins Knox and Vivienne (17), have returned to the shared home due to the painful associations. Following the split, half of their children also chose to drop Pitt’s last name, with Zahara leading the way, followed by Vivienne and Shiloh.

Jolie also detailed efforts to secure a new home near Pitt to maintain his involvement in their children’s lives. She noted that, at the time, her finances were tied up in Miraval and that she never sought alimony or other financial support from Pitt.

The legal battle over Château Miraval began in 2021 when Jolie sold her $64 million stake in the estate to SPI Group owner Yuri Shefler. Pitt responded by suing Jolie in February 2022, alleging the sale violated a prior agreement requiring mutual consent for any sale.

The ongoing litigation has since grown complex, involving claims about nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) and efforts by Pitt to depose Alexey Oliynik, a Stoli Group executive linked to SPI Group. Oliynik has resisted the deposition, citing his Swiss residency and arguing he should not be compelled to participate in the California legal case. A judge has yet to issue a ruling on the matter.
