KARACHI: HUM Films has presented its internationally acclaimed animated film Smart Momo Rabbit – The Big Chase, for screening across Pakistan.
Presented by Turkish broadcaster TRT and produced by renowned animation studio 9D Medya, HUM Films is honoured to bring this film to Pakistan. The film has a special appeal not only for children but also to viewers of all ages globally.
Renowned Pakistani artists Faisal Qureshi, Hira Mani, Salman (Mani) and others have lent their voices in the film, who have played an important role in bringing the film’s interesting characters to life. This magnificent animated film, created in collaboration with ‘TRT’, is a masterpiece of 9D Medya, a leading company in the Turkish animation industry, founded by renowned producer Mustafa Karayer. The film’s international presentation has been led by Pakistani-American filmmaker Sadia Ashraf, who is an executive producer and founder of the internationally acclaimed production house Rising Tides Films based in Los Angeles.
This animated film is the story of a smart, playful and courageous rabbit, ‘Momo’, who embarks on a thrilling journey to save his best friend, a violin-playing monkey, from the clutches of kidnappers. The journey takes him from the peaceful forests to a bustling and dangerous city, where he is tested on emotions such as friendship, loyalty, sacrifice and hope. The film’s central message is that no matter how small a character is, he can face the biggest challenges with passion and truth.
The film is directed by the talented 25-year-old director Mahmut Hasan, who describes the project as a beautiful blend of childhood innocence and modern-day technological prowess. According to him, “Animation takes us back to that magical world where dreams come true, surprises await us at every turn, and the simplest joys of life touch the heart. Smart Momo Rabbit is not just a story, but a memorable experience that connects us to our roots by weaving the past and present into a beautiful thread.”
The special thing about the film is that it was created in Kahramanmaras, an earthquake-hit region of southern Turkey. Despite the difficult conditions that arose after the 2023 earthquake, the film’s producer and founder of 9D Medya, Mustafa Karayer completed the project. He says that this film is not just entertainment content, but also represents the determination, courage and creative spirit of the people of this city. Completing the film despite natural disasters, global pandemics and other challenges is a success story in itself.
9D Medya partners Yusuf Bogra Tank and Basra Hosta say that their film is the first step in the journey of Turkish creative industry to be recognized internationally and its release in Pakistan is an important milestone. According to them, this film will serve as a bridge in further strengthening the cultural ties between Turkey and Pakistan.
Executive Producer Sadia Ashraf, while expressing her views, said that great stories do not need any borders or cultures. According to her, by combining the creative energy of TRT and 9D Medya with the expertise of Hollywood, a film is being brought to Pakistani audiences that will touch hearts, awaken passion and give new hope to everyone.
The film has reached the number one position at the Turkish box office with its release and its trailer has been viewed more than twenty million times even before its release. The film’s Hollywood premiere took place at the famous Directors Guild of America (DGA) in Los Angeles where it was highly appreciated by international film critics.
The screenplay of the film is written by Gul Ebru Terna and Serap Ozgar, who are among the representative writers of the new generation of Turkish animation industry. Their writing is full of emotional depth and shades of innocence that give the film a special place.
Smart Momo Rabbit: The Big Chase is actually giving a new dimension to the same vision of TRT that the world recognized through “Ertugrul Ghazi”. The only difference is that now the medium of the message is animation and the audience is children. Both projects are produced in collaboration with Turkey’s state-owned broadcaster TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation). While “Ertugrul Ghazi” was a historical drama that touched the hearts of young and old, “Smart Momo Rabbit: The Big Chase” is a high-quality creation made for children that presents universal themes such as friendship, loyalty and courage in an interesting way. Both projects are part of TRT’s Vision Export Culture, which aims to showcase Turkish culture, values and creative assets to the world. HUM Films is delighted and proud to bring this visual masterpiece to Pakistani audiences. Smart Momo Rabbit: The Big Chase is not just an animated film, but a message that celebrates friendship, courage and the greatness of humanity.
