KARACHI: The upcoming Punjabi film ‘Sarbalaji’, produced by Tips Films, is set to hit cinemas across Pakistan starting August 8, 2025. This heartwarming movie combines humour, love, rural culture, and family values, promising to captivate audiences of all ages.
‘Sarbalaji’ follows the lively and cheerful young man Socha, played by Punjabi cinema star Gippy Grewal. Known for his natural humour, charismatic presence, and energetic performances, Gippy’s character is a wedding entertainer whose joyful spirit draws viewers into a world filled with laughter, emotion, and positivity.
The story also features Gujan, Socha’s shy and sensitive cousin who loves sewing and is terrified of marriage. Portrayed by the talented Ami Virk, Gajan is convinced by Socha to become her ‘Sarbala’, setting off an amusing and emotional journey full of surprises.
Adding more flavour to the narrative are colourful characters such as a runaway groom, a bride who prefers farming over fashion, a bandit, and tales of secret love. The interactions and emotional highs and lows among these characters enrich the plot and make the film more engaging.
Directed by Mandeep Kumar—renowned for blending cultural depth with modern filmmaking—‘Sarbala Ji’ aims to entertain while also encouraging viewers to reflect on relationships, traditions, and human emotions. The cast also includes notable actors like Sargan Mehta, Nimrat Khaira, Gogo Gill, and BN Sharma, each contributing to the film’s vibrant portrayal of Punjabi culture.
Gippy Grewal’s performance is especially central to the film’s soul. Her dialogues, expressions, and mastery of Punjabi language create an immersive experience that leaves a lasting impression. Her presence adds a special charm that is likely to draw audiences back to the theatre repeatedly. It’s worth noting that her previous film, “Carry on Jatta,” was highly acclaimed and performed exceptionally well in Pakistan under HUM Films.
The film’s soundtrack, composed by the renowned Avi Sara, beautifully fuses traditional Punjabi melodies with contemporary sounds. The heartfelt lyrics and lively song videos enhance the emotional resonance, complemented by colourful rural sets and folk-inspired visuals that reflect the film’s cultural essence.
Since its teaser release in June, ‘Sarbala Ji’ has garnered widespread praise on social media, with millions of views on YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms. The teaser’s vibrant scenes and compelling story, along with the chemistry between Gippy Grewal and Ami Virk, have built excitement for the film.
Ultimately, ‘Sarbala Ji’ is a cultural reflection that showcases Punjab’s rural beauty, family bonds, love, and simplicity on the big screen. It’s a movie designed not just to entertain but also to evoke genuine emotions, appealing to audiences seeking both laughter and heartfelt moments.
A family-friendly and entertaining film, ‘Sarbala Ji’ offers viewers a meaningful connection to their roots and traditions. Don’t miss the chance to experience it in theatres from August 8—bring your family along and enjoy this celebration of Punjabi culture.
