WEB DESK: Nearly two decades after Miranda Priestly gave us the coldest “That’s all” in cinematic history, filming is underway for the sequel, and the internet is spiraling.
Now bracing ‘The Miranda Priestly’ cult into something transformative, algorithm friendly & digitally dominant, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, via 20th Century Studios and Disney.
Originally based on Lauren Weinberger’s bestselling novel, The Devil Wears Prada, the film became a pop culture phenomenon in the newly emerging digital fashion world. The character of Priestly is said to be loosely based on Vogue’s former editor Anna Wintour, who stepped down after 37 long years in the industry.
Cannes 2025: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Sindoor – personal or political?
This movie shifted the way fashion industry was seen & showcased, from highlighting the toxic work culture and power dynamics which were blindly followed. The industry’s work culture shifted towards being more open; from softening their image and making the work environment more inclusive, to appeal to the audience in a positive way.
The movie really called out toxic bosses, unpaid labor and exploiting entry-level employees.
The sequel centers on a dramatically transformed industry: seeded in the decline of print media and the rise of digital, influencer‑driven fashion, where gatekeeping is so out-of-fashion.
For the new entirely democratic, transparent and influencer-driven journalism, Fans are wondering on how Miranda copes with becoming irrelevant in a digital-first landscape, and focusing on the collapse of the elitist hegemony. The film’s release is tactically planned just before the 2026 Met Gala, boosting cultural relevance and buzz.
