Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh face off Sri Lanka today
ABU DUBAI: The Lions have elected to field first after wining the toss today in their opening clash of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh XI, who have already gained a commanding victory over Hong Kong on Thursday.
Sri Lanka’s victory
Skipper Charith Asalanka supported Mishara in continuing fearlessly. Both batters remained unbeaten, contributing 46 and 10 runs respectively, as Sri Lanka reached 119 for 4 in 14.4 overs. Thanks to 21 extras conceded by the Bangladesh bowlers, the Lions were able to successfully chase down the target of 139.

Sri Lanka began their innings by sending out Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis as openers. Their intention was clear: to lead from the front, and they did just that.
Top-order batter Nissanka scored a solid 50, while Mendis managed only 3. Despite the early dismissal of Mendis by Mahedi Hasan and later Nissanka by Mustafizur Rahman, the opening stand helped establish early momentum at the crease.
Nissanka was followed by Kamil Mishara, while Mendis was replaced by Kusal Perera. However, Perera managed only 9 runs off 9 balls before being dismissed, leaving Mishara under pressure at the crease. Dasun Shanaka came in next after Perera was bowled, but unfortunately, he couldn’t make an impact either, contributing just a single run before getting out.

This was followed by skipper Litton Das who could only manage 28 off 26 balls before being bowled. Middle order Towhid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan were also fallen, adding 8 and 9 each to their team’s so far total 45 in 15 overs.
