India strike claim second wicket; Sri Lanka continue to hold momentum

Sri Lanka lost their key player Perera to Varum in 13th over however India couldn’t shift the momentum, as the Lions skipper Charith Asalanka stepped in to support Nissanka, who increased his total total to 93 off just 49 deliveries. With Asalanka scoring 2 off 5 deliveries, the Lions were able to increase their chase to 157 for just two in 15 overs.

Sri Lanka score commanding century in 8.5 overs

Sri Lanka increased their team’s total to 96 in 8.4 overs which the Lions led up to 102 after hitting a long six on the 5th ball of the continued over, accomplishing half of the score to chase.

Top order Nissanka and third-in Kusal Perera were able to register massive 61 off just 32 and unprecedented 52 off only 25 to completely shift the momentum. With this the Lions were able to increase the total to 118 for the loss of only one wicket, while 10 overs were still to finish.

Sri Lanka began their chase with top-order batters Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis opening the innings. However, their start was shaky as Mendis fell for a duck in the very first over, dismissed by Hardik Pandya.

Kusal Perera then walked in at number three, while Nissanka looked determined to anchor the innings and contribute significantly to Sri Lanka’s chase. India finish with 202

India posted the highest total of the Asia Cup tournament so far, thanks to vital contributions from the lower order. Unbeaten Tilak Varma and Axar Patel added 49 and 21 each respectively, pushing the team’s total to 188 by the final over.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers further helped India’s cause by conceding 14 extras, taking the final score to a formidable 202 for 5 at the end of 20 overs.

India lose two more wickets in 15 and 16 overs

The Indian team increased their total to 162 in 15.5 overs. However, they lost two quick wickets—Sanju Samson on the last ball of the 15th over bowled by Shanaka, and Hardik Pandya on the very first ball of the 16th over by Chameera.

First century comes up in first half for three

After Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 12 off 13 balls, Tilak Varma stepped in to support the in-form Abhishek Sharma.

Abhishek powered his way to a rapid 61 off 31 balls before falling in the 8th over.

By the end of the 10th over, India had reached 100 for 3, marking a strong first half of their innings.

Only two wickets for Lions in first 7 overs

India got off to a dominant start as opener Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a blistering innings against Sri Lanka.

The left-hander smashed 61 runs off just 31 balls, including 8 fours and 2 towering sixes, before being dismissed by Charith Asalanka.

However, fellow opener Shubman Gill couldn’t settle at the crease, falling for just 4 off 3 balls in the very first over, bowled by Maheesh Theekshana.
