NADRA fails to cancel 6,000 expired licences

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) failed to cancel 60,000 expired arm licenses, leading to an approximate loss of Rs300 million to the national treasury.

The audit report reveals that the expiration date for the licenses was two years ago, but NADRA has yet to cancel them.

According to the report, licenses should be cancelled one year after expiration, a step NADRA has failed to take.

The report recommends taking action against those responsible and imposing fines on license holders, as well as holding NADRA officials accountable.

Additionally, the Ministry of Interior is missing records for 2,000 weapon licenses. Although the Ministry issued 46,465 licenses last year, it has not provided records for 2,000 of them.

The treasury is also missing records for over Rs10 million.

Furthermore, it was discovered that 3.5 billion rupees collected from weapon licenses were deposited in private banks instead of government banks, with NADRA failing to justify this decision.
