Digital Terrorism Court established: Raoof Hasan becomes first accused

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has granted permission under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PICA) to establish courts for the trial of individuals arrested for digital terrorism and cybercrime in Islamabad.

Trials of those arrested for digital terrorism and other digital crimes will be conducted under PICA courts.

The first case in this regard has been filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Information Secretary Raoof Hasan 

A few days ago, the federal cabinet approved the establishment of courts in Islamabad for trials under the PICA Act.

In light of the Islamabad High Court’s June 2 decision, courts have been authorised to establish Additional District and Session Judges and Civil Judges East and West for trials.

There could be a rise in arrests under the PICA Act in other provinces. Judges will be appointed for trials under the PICA Act with the consultation of Chief Justices of the respective high courts.
