Record of 2,000 weapon licences goes missing from Ministry of Interior

ISLAMABAD: Startling revelations have emerged regarding the disappearance of records for 2,000 licences at the Ministry of Interior.

According to a recent audit report by the Auditor General, despite the ministry issuing 46,465 licences last year, records for these licences have gone missing.

The special report by the Auditor General has revealed that a total of Rs 420.23 million was collected in fees for these licences by NADRA.

Furthermore, the audit report highlighted a significant discrepancy of Rs10 million missing from the treasury.

In response to queries about the missing licence records, the Ministry of Interior has remained silent, refusing to provide any explanation or clarification.

The audit report also revealed that fifteen thousand eight hundred ninety-nine licences for prohibited firearms and thirty-six hundred thirty-five licences for concealed firearms were issued.

Additionally, a hundred licences were granted to retired military personnel, and a hundred higher-quality weapon licences were issued to various institutions.

It has been revealed that the purchase and registration cases of 17,705 weapons were completed, but the Ministry of Interior has declined to respond to this matter.
