Shehbaz Sharif to leave for London soon: party insiders

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and former Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, is slated to leave for London within the next 24 hours, according to well-placed sources that claim he will remain in the United Kingdom till mid-September.

The trip’s primary reason is said to be Shehbaz’s pre-scheduled medical check-ups in the British capital.

While healthcare remains the primary concern, Sharif will also engage in a discussion on election campaign with elder brother Nawaz Sharif during the stay, family insiders revealed.

Meanwhile, the reins of the PML-N’s political campaign will remain firmly in the hands of the party’s Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz who has already started attended meetings with mid-tier party leaders as well as workers.

The decision regarding Nawaz Sharif’s return home is also set to be determined during Shehbaz’s London trip which will see meetings between senior leadership of the party towards the start of September.

Prominent party leaders including Ahsan Iqbal, Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Atta Tarar, and Ayaz Sadiq are among those expected to leave for London soon, sources confirmed.
