12 killed, 18 injured as heavy rains and flash floods batter KP

PESHAWAR: At least 12 people have been killed and 18 others injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past 48 hours as heavy rains and flash floods triggered incidents in several districts, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said.

According to the PDMA, the deceased include five men, five children, and two women, while the injured comprise 10 men, four women, and four children.

The torrential rains and flash floods also damaged 18 houses across the province. Of these, 15 houses suffered partial damage, while three were destroyed, the authority added.

The rain-related incidents were reported from Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, and other districts.

PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administrations are carrying out relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Authorities have directed district administrations to accelerate relief activities and ensure the provision of immediate assistance and relief supplies to affected families.

Meanwhile, PDMA said water levels in all rivers and streams across the province remain normal.

The weather system is expected to continue bringing intermittent heavy rains across KP until July 23, according to the disaster management authority.
