WEB DESK: A 12-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday after being struck by a speeding tractor-trolley near the Karachi Police Office (KPO), officials and rescue sources said.
Initial reports had suggested the incident took place on the main artery of Shahrah-e-Faisal. However, local police later clarified that the fatal accident occurred on an internal link road directly in front of the KPO.
Details of the accident
According to the Saddar police, the deceased child was a resident of the nearby Faisal Apartments. The victim had reportedly ridden his bicycle out of the residential complex and onto the link road when the tragedy occurred.
A water-carrying tractor-trolley, belonging to the Cantonment Board, was travelling at high speed along the road. Police officials stated that the driver failed to see the young cyclist in time, resulting in a direct collision. The impact of the crash was severe, and the child died on the spot.
Driver apprehended
Following the accident, rescue workers shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for the completion of legal and medical formalities.
Meanwhile, law enforcement personnel moved swiftly to secure the area. A senior police official confirmed that the driver of the tractor-trolley has been apprehended and the vehicle has been taken into official custody.
Saddar police stated that formal legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
