School teacher murder

KARACHI: Sindh police have apprehended 16 suspects linked to the killing of a school teacher in Kandhkot-Kashmore’s kacha area, provincial home minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar announced on Tuesday.

Langar stated that among those detained were eight suspects and seven facilitators. He said that police have also incinerated the hideouts and bunkers of the bandits and seized weapons from the apprehended suspects.

“A strategy for an operation against the robbers in the riverine areas is in its final stages, and robust police action will be evident in the coming days. Those endangering public lives and property will face strict action,” he said.

The victim, primary school teacher Allah Rakhiyo Nandwani, was fatally shot by the robbers, it emerged on Tuesday.

According to The News, the incident occurred on March 18 when armed men attacked Nandwani while he was returning home from his workplace, a cluster primary school located in a “no-go area” Nasrullah Khan Bijarani, where he taught.

The assailants intercepted him while he was riding his motorcycle and fled after fatally shooting him.

Nandwani’s demise followed three days after a video of him went viral on social media. The brief clip depicted the school teacher carrying a rifle for self-defence during his commute from his residence to the school and back.

“I teach at the school for the sake of the students’ future. The police and education department have warned me against going there (no-go area), but refraining from doing so would harm the children’s future. I am protecting myself,” he asserted while displaying the gun he carried in the video.

Nandwani had pledged to fulfill his duty as a school teacher regularly to serve the students.

In the video, the deceased teacher’s son was observed seated behind him on the motorcycle, apparently studying at the same school.

As per local police, armed assailants opened fire at Nandwani near the Mandani check-post.
