2.5 million cameras installed to enhance surveillance in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, on Saturday launched a groundbreaking initiative to map 2.5 million private cameras province-wide, aiming to enhance digital surveillance and bolster crime control in Punjab.
Significant progress has already been made, with the mapping of 400,000 private cameras in Lahore completed. During his visit, the Chief Minister also inspected the air quality index monitoring system of the Safe City Authority.
A pivotal meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, took place at the Punjab Safe City Authority office. The gathering gave the green light to the Smart Safe City Project DEC-3, extending its reach to districts and tehsils.
The Smart Safe City Project encompasses digital monitoring, e-challan implementation, traffic control, and face recognition in districts and tehsils. Additionally, the meeting conducted a comprehensive review of the Safe City Project in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi.

According to a detailed briefing, Lahore is set to witness the installation of 60 cameras on both internal and external roads, ensuring thorough digital monitoring. Moreover, Safe City cameras are currently being deployed on a 7-megaproject nearing completion in Lahore.
