KARACHI: Twenty-one flights from various airlines have been cancelled at Karachi Jinnah International Airport Friday.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), both domestic and international flights have been affected, with 14 domestic flights from various carriers and seven international flights from different airlines being subject to cancellation.

The airlines have cited operational reasons for the cancellations, according to the CAA.

Domestic flights to Islamabad, Lahore, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan have been called off. Additionally, projects to Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Turbat have also been canceled.

On the international front, flights to Baku, Jeddah, Madinah, and Dubai have been canceled, along with flights to Muscat and Riyadh.

PIA planes grounded at middle eastern airports amid financial woes

Notably, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Emirates, Air Sial, Fly Jinnah, and Air Blue have all canceled their flights.

PIA, currently grappling with severe cash flow issues, has canceled several domestic and international flights amid an ongoing cash flow crisis.

A high-ranking official of the national flag carrier earlier informed that flight operations are at risk of suspension by September 15 (today) if emergency funds are not provided.

It’s worth noting that PIA had sought an emergency bailout of Rs22.9 billion, which was declined by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
