21 terrorists killed in intelligence-based operations across KP: ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 21 terrorists belonging to the Indian-backed “Fitna al-Khawarij” in multiple operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between September 3 and 5, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were conducted in different areas of the province, including North Waziristan, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan.
In North Waziristan, security forces killed 10 more terrorists hiding in the area following an operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on the night of August 31 and September 1. With the latest action, the number of militants killed while attempting to infiltrate Pakistan in that episode rose to 25, the ISPR said.
In another clash in North Waziristan, security forces detected the movement of another group of terrorists along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and killed seven of them through a targeted operation.
Meanwhile, four more terrorists were killed in two separate clashes during joint operations in Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan districts.
The ISPR said that the repeated incidents along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border had once again reinforced Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban government had failed to prevent a terrorist organisation operating under its patronage from using Afghan soil for cross-border terrorism.
It said the Afghan Taliban government had also continued to fail to ensure effective border management and fulfil its international obligations in combating terrorism.
Security forces, the ISPR said, remained committed to defending the country’s borders and were conducting clearance operations to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
It added that operations would continue under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam” to eliminate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from Pakistan.
Zardari praises security forces
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces for killing militants in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and expressed satisfaction over their timely and effective operations against terrorists.
He lauded the professional capabilities of the security forces and said the nefarious designs of externally backed terrorist elements would be foiled at all costs.
Zardari said defending Pakistan’s borders and completely eliminating terrorism remained the government’s top priorities.
He also called on the Afghan interim government to prevent its territory from being used for terrorism against Pakistan.
Shehbaz hails security forces
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the security forces for killing militants belonging to the Indian-backed “Fitna al-Khawarij” during successful intelligence-based and counterterrorism operations in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The prime minister said the entire nation was proud of the professional capabilities of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies for repeatedly thwarting attempts to undermine Pakistan’s peace and stability.
He said the nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the security forces in the ongoing war against terrorism.
Shehbaz added that operations under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam” would continue with full resolve until the complete elimination of foreign-backed terrorism from Pakistani soil.
Interior minister praises troops
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the security forces for their successful operations against what he described as Indian-sponsored terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He described the killing of 21 militants during the operations as a major achievement for the security forces and commended their professional capabilities in thwarting the militants’ designs.
Naqvi said the security forces were determined to completely eliminate Indian-sponsored terrorists.
“Brave sons of the security forces are the pride of the nation,” he said, adding that the Pakistani nation stood with them in the fight against terrorism.
