WEB DESK: Many individuals may be eager to learn whether December 27 will be a public holiday this year in commemoration of the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
As of today, the government has not issued any official notification for the year 2023 regarding this matter.
With December 27 approaching next week and falling on a Wednesday, there is still almost a week left before the day arrives.
It is anticipated that the Sindh government will soon make an announcement regarding its decision on whether December 27 will be designated as a public holiday, leading to the closure of offices and schools, or if it will be a regular working day with business activities resuming.
To ascertain this, there is a collective anticipation among the populace for the government’s official notification, which is poised to reveal the definitive status of the impending public holiday.
It is noteworthy that in 2022, the Sindh government declared a public holiday “on the occasion of the shahadat of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto” for all offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Government of Sindh, excluding essential services and those engaged in COVID-19 emergency and flood relief duties.

Additionally, December 26 was also marked as a public holiday (for Christians only) in 2022, observed on the day after Christmas throughout Sindh.
Should the holiday be declared, people can anticipate enjoying multiple holidays at the end of December, as December 25, celebrated as Quad-e-Azam Day, is also falling on a Monday this year.
