3 Body Problem: What to expect from Netflix’s latest sci-fi show


LONDON: Netflix’s ambitious sci-fi series “3 Body Problem” held a premiere in London on Thursday. The show’s debut attracted both audiences and industry insiders alike.

The premiere brought together an impressive cast, including Benedict Wong, Eiza Gonzalez, and Jess Hong, along with a ‘mini-reunion’ of “Game of Thrones” actors including John Bradley, Jonathan Pryce, and Liam Cunningham.

Created by D. B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo, 3 Body Problem will offer viewers a blend of mystery, science fiction, and drama, reminiscent of the acclaimed series “Game of Thrones.”
The event took place at the renowned art venue Frameless, where immersive rooms inspired by the dystopian themes of the show were exhibited.

Netflix’s latest sci-fi show is adapted from the acclaimed novels by Chinese sci-fi writer Liu Cixin. The story is beings in 1960s China, where a pivotal decision triggers a series of events with profound “consequences across time and space”. As societal norms are challenged, a group of scientists are forced to band together to confront an “unprecedented threat” to humanity.

The show will span multiple decades and realms of existence, from the tumultuous era of China’s Cultural Revolution to modern-day Britain. The show will also delve deeply into the realm of virtual reality (VR).
The reported cost of the first season alone is around $160 million due to the scale and scope of sets needed for the show’s settings.

The cast also offered insight into the show, with John Bradley talking about the expansive nature of the show. The actor compared the sci-fi show to his previous role in Game of Thrones. He described the transition from a medieval fantasy setting to a futuristic sci-fi world as extremely challenging but exciting. Bradley also expressed enthusiasm for the diversity offered within the show and the vast “storytelling possibilities” as it transcends time and space.

Meanwhile, Jess Hong chose to discuss the effort of the crew behind the scenes. Hong talked about the meticulous attention to detail showed by the production crew, describing in depth the elaborate set designs and intricate costumes. The actor stated that almost every aspect of the series showed a commitment to bringing Liu Cixin’s world to life.
