74 schools closed in Pakpattan amid Sutlej floods

PAKPATTAN: Amid concerns of flooding in River Sutlej, the education department has taken the decision to close down 74 schools.

In Pakpattan, 51 schools have reportedly been shut down, and in Arifwala, education activities have been suspended in 23 schools.

To address the rising water levels in the Sutlej River, the district administration has established six relief camps for displaced individuals. These camps are located in Pir Ghani, Malik Bahawal, Malik-e-Taro, Beli Dilawar, Tibi Lal Baig, and Noora Rath areas.

Chairman NDMA reviews devastation caused by flooded Sutlej River

Earlier, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik reviewed the situation of the devastation caused by the flooded Sutlej River, the situation of major Dams, and the regulation of river flows during the ongoing monsoon spell.

He directed the departments concerned to carry out flood damage assessment and gather accurate data. He also instructed PDMAs, GBDMA, and SDMA to increase awareness among the masses about the remedial measures to be taken during the season and to monitor the changing situation vigilantly.
