Pakistani batter Abbas Afridi stunned cricket fans on Friday with a spectacular display of power hitting in the Hong Kong Sixes match against Kuwait. Afridi smashed six consecutive sixes in a single over off Yasin Patel, equalling a record in the fast-paced six-over tournament.

The right-handed batter ended his 12-ball stay with 55 runs as Pakistan chased a challenging target of 124. The match went down to the final delivery, with Pakistan sealing the win in a nail-biting finish at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok. Fans were treated to a thrilling spectacle as every run counted in the six-a-side contest.

At 24, Afridi is not a regular fixture in the national team. He made his debut against New Zealand in January 2024 and last played for Pakistan in July against Bangladesh. In 24 T20s so far, he has scored 134 runs at an average of 12.18 with a strike rate of 112.61. His explosive innings in Hong Kong is likely to draw attention from selectors and fans alike.

The Hong Kong Sixes tournament is known for its high-octane format, with six players per side and six overs per innings. Each player except the wicketkeeper must bowl one over, adding strategy to the fast-paced action. The event, first held in 1992 and revived in 2024, has become a fan favourite for its short, exciting matches and festive atmosphere, attracting teams from around the world.

Afridi’s remarkable feat will be officially recorded by the ICC, giving him a memorable moment in international cricket despite his limited appearances for Pakistan.
