WEB DESK: Adiala Jail authorities have rejected claims that the PTI founder is running his official X (formerly Twitter) account from inside the prison, telling the court that he has no access to mobile phones or the internet.
The clarification came during proceedings on a petition seeking the suspension of the PTI founder’s X account. In a written response submitted to the court, the Adiala Jail superintendent said the account is being operated “from outside the prison” and not by the former prime minister or any prison staff.
The superintendent stated that the PTI founder is under strict surveillance and is allowed only those facilities permitted under jail rules or by court orders. He added that both the PTI founder and the staff assigned to him are regularly searched, and no prohibited items, including mobile phones, have ever been recovered from him.
The report further noted that mobile signal jammers are installed throughout Adiala Jail, making any such communication impossible. It also referenced Jail Rule 265, which restricts prisoners from engaging in political discussions.
The superintendent alleged that, in the past, the PTI founder’s directions had contributed to “inciting violence” outside the prison, but stressed there is currently no channel available for him to communicate digitally.
He confirmed that only family members and lawyers meet him during the ongoing jail trial, and all interactions are monitored according to prison regulations.
