Adiala jail tops in Punjab with most drug supply cases

ISLAMABAD: A total of 1913 cases involving drug supply have been reported across 43 jails in Punjab between January 2020 and August 2023, according to the Jail Department.

The highest number of drug supply cases was recorded at Central Jail Adiala, with 1270 reported incidents. Central Jail Kot Lakhpat Lahore reported 255 cases, Central Jail Multan reported 64 cases, and Bhakkar Jail reported 31 cases.

Several other Punjab jails have also reported cases of drug supply, with varying numbers of cases involved. District Jail Attock reported 27 cases, Central Jail Sahiwal reported 15 cases, District Jail Khanewal reported 10 cases, District Jail Gujrat reported 5 cases, Wahdat Jail reported 35 cases, District Jail Shahpur reported 7 cases, and Central Jail Faisalabad reported 5 cases.

The spokesperson for the Jail Department mentioned that actions have been taken against both individuals and officials involved in drug supply following routine inspections and checks.
