AFG vs SL A: Sri Lanka A sets 171-run target in Asia Cup Rising Stars

ISLAMABAD: In the AFG vs SL A clash of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025, Sri Lanka were defeated by Afghanistan A, with Sediqullah Atal and Imran Mir scoring a 26-ball 50 runs massive partnership in fourth match of the tournament.

Afghanistan A batting line

After Sri Lanka A’s innings, Afghanistan A’s chase was anchored by Darwish Rasooli (32) and Imran Mir (34), but it was Sediqullah Atal’s 54-run knock that truly kept the game alive.

A late flurry of wickets made the contest tense, stretching the match to the final over, but Afghanistan A managed to cross the line in a thrilling finish.

Afghanistan A were able to win the fourth Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 match for the loss of 7 wickets.

Sri Lanka A batting line

Earlier, Sri Lanka A built momentum after winning the toss against Afghanistan. Openers Nishan Madushka and Vishen Halambage got the innings off to a steady start, with Halambage hitting a massive six over long-on before being bowled for 28. Lasith Croospulle followed but fell cheaply to Sami, while Madushka went for 5.

During their batting, Bilal Sami shined for the Afghan Abdalyans as he took four wickets of the opponents, with Allah Ghazanfar taking three.

Nuwanidu Fernando anchored the innings with a brisk 39 off 35 balls, helping the team reach 73. After a duck by Sahan Arachchige, Sri Lanka’s skipper Dunith Wellalage and Rathnayake added crucial runs, scoring 33 and 41 respectively, taking the total to 147. The remaining batters, including Ramesh Mendis, Isitha Wijesundera, and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, added 17 runs, taking the final score to 170, aided by six extras, in their allotted 20 overs.
