ISLAMABAD: In a significant move, Pakistan has taken decisive action to address the issue of arrested illegal Afghan immigrants by engaging with the Afghanistan Embassy in Islamabad.
This development marks a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to repatriate those who have been residing in Pakistan unlawfully.
High-ranking officials from Islamabad, including representatives from the police, the capital’s administration, and the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees, recently convened a meeting with their counterparts from the Afghan Embassy.
During this meeting, both sides demonstrated a commitment to effective coordination in handling this sensitive matter. An agreement was reached to facilitate the repatriation of illegal Afghan immigrants from Pakistan. Furthermore, the Pakistani authorities have pledged to provide the embassy with data on the arrested illegal Afghan immigrants.
Apex Committee: One document policy for Afghanistan to be implemented
This proactive stance by Pakistan comes in the wake of heightened security concerns, including an increase in terrorist activities and drug smuggling incidents. In response to these challenges, the caretaker federal government has set a clear deadline of November 1 for illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the country or face deportation.
Notably, the decision to take action against foreigners residing illegally in Pakistan was made during a meeting of the National Apex Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. The committee, which included key figures such as COAS General Asim Munir and the chief ministers of various provinces, also focused on the recent surge in terror attacks across Pakistan. Security officials provided crucial insights into these incidents and outlined measures to combat terrorism.
As part of the comprehensive strategy, the committee decided to impose a deadline for the return of illegally residing foreigners. After the expiration of this deadline, their properties will be subject to seizure. This decisive action underscores Pakistan’s commitment to addressing security challenges and maintaining the integrity of its borders.
