Musawir Khan Kakar

ISLAMABAD: Officials in Balochistan said Saturday Afghan and Iranian governments assisted Pakistani authorities in the investigation by sharing intelligence about the suspects involved in the abduction and killing of child, Musawir Khan Kakar.

Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti and Commissioner Quetta Division Muhammed Hamza Shafqaat said that Daesh was involved in the kidnapping of Musawir Khan Kakar.

Kakar was kidnapped for ransom in November 2024 from Quetta, the provincial capital. He was killed later in Mastung, according to officials.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Quetta Aetzaz Ahmed Goraya on Friday said that Musawar Khan Kakar was 9-year-old.

“I do not just want to condemn the brutality with which ISIS terrorists martyred the innocent child Musawar Kakar for ransom, but I consider it my responsibility to bring those involved in the incident to justice,” Sarfaraz Bugti said in a statement posted on X.

He said the Balochistan government and he personally have been making every effort for the safe return of Musawar Khan Kakar for the past seven months. Everyone, especially Musawar’s father and uncle, are well aware of this, he added.

“The entire state machinery has been mobilized against those involved in this incident. Some of the terrorists involved have been sent to hell, while others are being cornered,” Bugti said.

Commissioner Hamza Shafqat said a terrorist group affiliated with ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) kidnapped the child from Quetta and demanded a ransom of Rs3 billion.

“Following the incident, a coordinated and intensive intelligence-based operation was launched by the police and intelligence agencies in Quetta. Six suspects belonging to the group were identified, including five Afghans and one Pakistani national,” the commissioner wrote on X on Saturday.

He said the group used Iranian WhatsApp numbers and kept changing their locations to avoid arrest, adding the vehicle used in the kidnapping was traced and seized.

“Three separate hideouts of the group were identified, which were raided and more material was obtained for investigation,” he said.

It is believed that Musawir Khan Kakar was killed when Baloch separatists attacked Daesh militants in Mastung in April.

Daesh, in a recent video, stated that Baloch insurgents had attacked its small group and killed 30 members.

The investigation analyzed more than 1,000 CCTV videos, while more than 2,000 homes and 400 rental properties were searched, Shafqat said.

He said the governments of Afghanistan and Iran provided key information about the suspects, while WhatsApp shared contact records.

“The operation eventually culminated in a major raid in Dasht, Mastung. During the operation, one terrorist blew himself up, while the other was killed. An armored police vehicle was damaged in the explosion,” he added.

“Unfortunately, the kidnapped child was martyred and buried secretly. Later, the child’s body was recovered, identified through DNA testing, and handed over to the heirs with full respect.”

Musawir Khan Kakar’s DNA test was conducted in Lahore.

Shafqat said targeted operations are underway against elements affiliated with ISIS. “God willing, all will be arrested.”

Daesh has not issued any statement regarding the incident.
