A senior Afghan Taliban leader has welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in securing a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, calling for peaceful resolution of conflicts and respect for sovereignty.
Speaking to Hum News, Suhail Shaheen said Afghanistan appreciated and supported the announcement of a ceasefire that followed Pakistan’s request. He termed the development a positive step towards reducing tensions in the region.
“We appreciate and welcome the announcement of the ceasefire following Pakistan’s request,” Shaheen said, while reiterating opposition to attacks on civilian areas. “We condemn bombardment of civilian places and installations anywhere,” he added.
The Afghan leader stressed that dialogue and negotiations remained the only viable path to resolving disputes, underlining the importance of respecting the sovereignty of independent states. His remarks come amid heightened regional tensions that have drawn international concern over the risk of wider escalation.
Pakistan has positioned itself as a key diplomatic facilitator in recent weeks, engaging both Washington and Tehran to push for de-escalation. The proposed two-week ceasefire is being seen as a crucial window for negotiations, with Islamabad set to host talks aimed at achieving a longer-term settlement.
Shaheen’s statement reflects broader regional support for diplomatic initiatives, as countries increasingly call for restraint and dialogue over military confrontation.
The ceasefire, though still fragile, has opened space for negotiations, with multiple stakeholders urging all sides to use the opportunity to pursue lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
