West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has confirmed his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), ending a notable chapter in his career. However, the 37-year-old has assured fans that he will remain involved with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), taking on a new role as a “power coach” starting in 2026.

Russell, who was released by KKR after an underwhelming 2025 season, revealed that he will not be entering his name for the upcoming IPL auction on December 16. Despite his decision to step away from the IPL, Russell will continue to feature in various T20 leagues around the world, including his home competition, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Reflecting on his departure, Russell said, “The best time is when the fans ask why you are leaving, there is still a lot left in you.” He added that his new role with KKR, which will involve coaching and mentoring young players, aligns perfectly with his passion for power hitting and his energetic bowling style.

Russell’s IPL journey began in 2012 with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), but it was with KKR that he truly made his mark, helping the team secure two IPL titles in 2014 and 2016. Over his IPL career, Russell played 140 matches, establishing himself as one of the league’s most explosive all-rounders.

The news comes at the heels of South African cricketer Faf du Plessis also announcing his withdrawal from the IPL for the upcoming season.

South African cricket star Faf du Plessis has confirmed that he will join the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Season 11, marking a significant shift after a stellar 14-year career in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Du Plessis, who had been a prominent figure in the IPL, revealed he would not be participating in this year’s auction, instead opting to embrace a new challenge in the PSL. “This year, I have decided to accept a new challenge and I want to play in PSL Season 11,” he said, expressing excitement about the opportunity to experience the dynamic cricket culture of Pakistan.

Du Plessis also praised the PSL for its energy and talent, highlighting the league’s growing reputation as one of the most competitive T20 tournaments in the world. “The Pakistan Super League is full of enthusiasm and talent, and I am looking forward to playing in front of Pakistan’s traditional hospitality and passionate fans,” said the seasoned batsman. His signing is expected to elevate the PSL’s profile further, with cricket fans across Pakistan eagerly anticipating his arrival and the impact he will bring to the league.
