After Karachi, protestors storm US Consulate in Lahore

LAHORE: Fresh unrest erupted on Sunday as protesters stormed the United States Consulate General, Lahore, hours after violent clashes outside the United States Consulate General, Karachi left multiple people dead and injured.

In Lahore, demonstrators gathered outside the consulate compound chanting slogans against the United States and Israel following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in reported US-Israeli strikes on Tehran. Witnesses said sections of the crowd attempted to breach security barriers, prompting police to respond with baton charges and tear gas to push protesters back.

Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary Rangers were deployed to secure the diplomatic mission and surrounding roads. Authorities sealed off key arteries in the area to prevent further escalation. No immediate official casualty figure was released from Lahore, though rescue teams were seen shifting injured individuals to nearby hospitals.

The unrest in Lahore followed deadly confrontations earlier in the day in Karachi, where clashes broke out on MT Khan Road near the US consulate. Protesters there allegedly attempted to storm the compound, pelting stones at security personnel. Law enforcement responded with tear gas shelling to disperse the crowd.

Hospital officials in Karachi confirmed multiple casualties, with several injured transported for treatment. Authorities also reinforced security across sensitive installations in the city after the violence disrupted traffic from Sultanabad to Mai Kolachi, forcing police to divert vehicles through alternative routes including II Chundrigar Road and surrounding corridors.

Officials in Punjab issued similar directives, placing security forces on high alert around diplomatic missions and other sensitive locations.
