ISLAMABAD: After Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi declined to accept the bulletproof vehicles from the federal government, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that the vehicles will now be sent to Balochistan, following a request from Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.
Responding to CM Bugti’s post on X (formerly Twitter), Naqvi said that the bulletproof vehicles would be dispatched to Balochistan immediately, expressing hope that the move would strengthen the province’s counterterrorism efforts.
After KP chief minister declined to receive the bulletproof vehicles, chief minister Bugti requested the interior minister to provide them to Balochistan instead.
In his post on X tagging Mohsin Naqvi, Bugti wrote that Balochistan, like KP, continues to face the threat of terrorism. If KP is unwilling to take the vehicles, they should be handed over to Balochistan to help combat terrorism more effectively.
Earlier, Sohail Afridi ordered the return of the bulletproof vehicles provided to the provincial police, terming them old and substandard.
Afridi said that the vehicles supplied by the interior minister were of poor quality and an insult to the KP police.
He said that it was unacceptable to provide inferior equipment to the province’s brave police force and directed that the vehicles be sent back immediately.
The chief minister further stated that the KP police are the backbone of peace and security in the province and that no political interference in the force would be tolerated.
During a meeting, Afridi also ordered the withdrawal of security provided to former chief ministers, stating that all security resources must be used strictly for public interest and provincial safety.
He directed law enforcement agencies to take immediate steps to boost police morale and equip the force with modern facilities.
