After Plessis and Russell, Moeen Ali Also Announces Move to PSL 2026

ISLAMABAD: In yet another major boost for the HBL Pakistan Super League, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has confirmed that he will feature in PSL 2026, becoming the latest international star to turn away from the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Moeen’s announcement comes soon after two global T20 giants, Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell, revealed their own decisions to step back from the IPL and shift focus toward the PSL and other leagues.

Last week, South African veteran Faf du Plessis confirmed he will join PSL Season 11 after bringing an end to his remarkable 14-year IPL career. The former Proteas captain, known for his consistency and leadership in the IPL, said the time was right to take on a new challenge as he prepares for the tournament in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, West Indies superstar Andre Russell has also announced his retirement from the IPL. The 37-year-old all-rounder, released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after an underwhelming 2025 season, stated he won’t be entering the IPL auction on December 16. Though stepping away from the league, Russell will remain part of KKR as a “power coach” from 2026, while continuing to play in global T20 competitions, including the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Moeen Ali, who has featured in the IPL since 2018 for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, has amassed 1,167 runs and 41 wickets in 73 games. Released by KKR after playing only six matches in the 2025 season, the 38-year-old has opted to shift fully to PSL commitments.

He previously represented Multan Sultans in one PSL season, appearing in nine matches. His return — following the headline-worthy moves of Russell and du Plessis — is expected to make PSL 2026 one of the most star-studded and competitive editions yet.
