ISLAMABAD: Cricketer-turned-analyst Ahmad Shahzad, known for his outspoken views on the cricket board and current team leadership, has addressed head coach Gary Kirsten’s alleged remarks on the disunity within the Pakistan team following their humiliating exit from the 2024 World Cup, stating that it was “not shocking at all.”

Shahzad remarked, “We have been saying this throughout the World Cup. It’s time for accountability. This team is plagued with grouping, and a crackdown is the only option.”

He further asserted, “The players involved must be punished and an example should be set for the next generation of cricketers. PCB [Pakistan Cricket Board] chairman must take notice.”

Pakistan’s World Cup campaign was marred by a stunning super-over defeat to the United States and a six-run loss to bitter rivals India, in which they failed to chase down a modest 120-run target.

Subsequently, after rain distributed equal points in the match between Ireland and the USA, Pakistan was indirectly knocked out of the T20 World Cup group stages for the first time in their history.

Kirsten reportedly offered a blunt assessment of the team’s unity during a meeting with the squad, stating that the players were divided, adding that he had not witnessed such a situation despite his extensive experience with several teams.
